Chestnut wood is very similar to Oak as they share the botanical family. Therefore is a very durable wood, with an excellent behaviour for natural outdoor use and flooring. It is usually chosen for solid flooring, decking and also to build wood facades. It is considered to be a hardwood and can be produced in wide widths and full lengths.
Sweet Chestnut is a decorative timber which looks light brown colour. It usually presents dark streaks and knots. Due to its texture and colour, it is usually confused with Oak, especially when it is Crown Cut. Chestnut wood is easy to work with and also suitable for machining. It can also be dyed to look like Hickory.
The Company takes special care of the drying process to ensure the better behaviour of the Chestnut solid wood. Usual thickness of the Chestnut flooring are between 18 and 38mm and will soon be available at stgwood.
