Both known as Pinaster or Maritime Pine, with more area available for wood production than Radiata Pine located basically in the north west of Spain and Portugal. Due to its characteristics, it is a good option for a wide range of final uses in construction, pallets, packaging and also the furniture industry.
The Pinaster Pine heartwood is light reddish brown while demarcated sapwood is pale yellow to nearly white. Colour tends to darken with age. The natural prune of this European Pine allows this specie to offer a high percentage of knotless timber. It also presents a higher mechanical resistance than Radiata Pine.
Maritime Pine works fairly well with most tools. It glues and finishes very well and is also considered to be more durable than Radiata Pine.
